akaryon is a research based Austrian SME founded in 1999. Since 2000 akaryon comprises of two locations, one in the rural area of Styria, one in the Austrian capital Vienna. The company has gradually grown in terms of turnover and employment and currently employs more than 10 people. Interest for sustainability topics and the intention to increase awareness on the responsible use of resources are part of our corporate mission: We are specialized in the development of complex web applications dealing with environmental and energy related topics, thereby often fulfilling educational purposes. Apart from capitalizing our web-based/mobile environmental informatics applications as standalone solutions, we also take part in environmentally relevant educational projects on a regular base not only introducing our know-how but also providing our solutions to project target groups (for example learners with different educational backgrounds). We often also co-ordinate these projects, as well as we also have experience in managing co-operative research projects

Climate Alliance Austria

The Climate Alliance is a global partnership for climate protection and currently connects more than 1,700 communities in 27 European countries with indigenous peoples in South America. The common goals are the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the protection of the Amazon rainforest. In Austria the Climate Alliance is the largest climate protection network. It has grown continuously and includes Climate Alliance municipalities, Climate Alliance companies, Climate Alliance schools and kindergartens as well as all Austrian federal states and the municipality of Vienna. The focus of Climate Alliance’s work is on information and awareness raising, networking and further education as well as the implementation of projects and campaigns in the fields of climate protection, climate justice and climate change adaptation. Unique in Europe is the long-term cooperation with selected regions in the Amazon region. Since 1993 Climate Alliance Austria has supported FOIRN, the umbrella organisation of indigenous organisations at the Rio Negro in Brazil. The focus lies on raising awareness in Austria. A climate-friendly lifestyle not only lowers greenhouse gas emissions in Europe, but also reduces the pressure on the rainforests. The greatest successes of the Climate Alliance partnership are on the one hand the protection of 135,000 km² of rainforest in Amazonia. FOIRN was granted land rights by the Brazilian government for an area 1.6 times the size of Austria. Equally long-term and successful is the partnership between the Climate Alliance municipalities and the federal state in Vorarlberg and the Chocó region in Colombia.

Climate Alliance Italy

The CINAMON partner Climate Alliance Italy (CAI) is the Italian coordination of the European city network. Climate Alliance is a large and multifaceted network: nearly 2,000 member municipalities and districts covering more than 25 European countries as well as a variety of regional governments, NGOs and other organisations are actively working to combat climate change. In terms of members, Climate Alliance is the largest European city network dedicated to climate action; members accept climate change as a global challenge that requires local solutions. The main activity of CAI is to promote and mainstream sustainable energy, climate, and mobility policies into the daily functioning of public administrations for an integrated sustainable local and regional development and we do so through developing tools, capacity building, researching, and disseminating exemplary experiences and solutions. Since 2010 CAI has been a ‘Supporter’ of the Covenant of Mayors and since 2014 manages the Italian helpdesk. The daily contact with many towns and cities, small and large, very ambitious, or a little less so as to their climate and energy policies, with varying degrees of capacity to implement them, has provided the network with an extended empirical and practical knowledge of the possibilities and limits, margins of action and impediments for energy and climate action of local and regional administrations. CAI has extensive experience in participating in EU projects. Building on 30 years of experience in working with municipalities and within the Covenant of Mayors, Climate Alliance is able to contribute to local climate protection and adaptation with its expertise in communication, financing, energy planning, CO2 monitoring, capacity building and knowledge transfer.

Climate Alliance Germany

The Climate Alliance Germany is part of the European office of the non-profit association Climate Alliance e.V. located in Frankfurt am Main. In Germany, the Climate Alliance provides cities, municipalities, and districts with many concrete offers, such as information, arguments, and implementation assistance for municipal climate protection. The Climate Alliance in Germany has also initiated and supported several important campaigns and offers, such as the mobility campaign “Stadtradeln,” the in-house monitoring tool “Klimaschutz-Planer,” and the highly effective outreach energy consulting campaign “Energiekarawane.” The Climate Alliance Germany aims to motivate municipalities to take action according to the 5 Climate Alliance principles. This is done, among other things, through networking and exchange, for example, within established working groups on different topics (energy supply, financing, monitoring, among others). Our project work is frequently supported by the National Climate Initiative (NKI). The member municipalities of the Climate Alliance Germany represent half of the population of the Federal Republic of Germany – more than 40 million people.
